The anti-Stone

I've previously mentioned that I tend to read Sullivan regularly as the voice of a sane conservative as I remember them from my youth.   Today  he posted this, as one of his many examples of right-wing derangement.  The book it covered,  American Betrayal sounded from its excerpts like the typical, unhinged ideological screed masquerading as historical research.   Most of the time I laugh and move on, this time I clicked through to see the full context.

West is irritated that Front Page -- whose masthead declares all liberals to be closeted totalitarians -- posted a lengthy,  skeptical review of her book, replete with citations. She went into full outraged victim mode implying their conservatism was somehow lacking.  From the comments on both pages, she's not the only one.

That's not really my point.

My point is that now, an editor who "adores" Ann Coulter's writing and declares her to be a "conservative thinker" is now an enemy RINO for having someone with a slightly deeper understanding of wartime and mid-century politics scrutinize a book that, someday, the author will admit was a fairly shameless cash-grab.

Just where is the line of orthodoxy for the right?  Do they even know?

  1. Where is this generation's William F Buckley?

  2. Offhand I'd guess they're being ostracized by their would-be cohort as RINOs, if not actually treasonous.
